◾ Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) Investments

Globally, for the month of May 2022, the total PE and VC investments reached US $39 billion - which is reported to be 14% lower than the total PE and VC investments raised in the month of April 2022, amounting to US $45 billion.

In India, however, the decrease in the total PE and VC investments in the month of May, which amounted to US $5.3 billion, was 29% lower than the investments in the month of April, which valued at US $7.5 billion.

The weekly Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) investments, however, seem to showcase a positive trend.

When compared to the total Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) investments recorded in the week of June 13th, which amounted to US $632 million, the week of June 20th witnessed a positive upward trend, with total Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC) investments reaching US $953 million.

‍‎India's Largest Funding Deal - Weekly

‍Stashfin and LeadSquared - These were the two largest funding deals for the week of June 20th, 2022.

1. Singapore-based neo banking platform ‘Stashfin’ raised US $270 million in a new funding round

‍

Stashfin raised US $270 million to fundraise (which comprises of US $70 million against equity and US $200 million as debt) in a Series C funding round.
The new round was financed by Uncorrelated Ventures, Abstract Ventures and Fasanara Capital, and saw participation from existing investors like Altara Ventures, Tencent, Kravis Investment Partners and Snow Leopard.
As per insights from Stashfin, the new round values the startup between US $700 million to US $800 million.

2. SaaS platform ‘LeadSquared’ enters the Unicorn club!

With LeadSquared’s vision to make high-velocity sales execution software a reality for companies around the world, the platform raised an investment of US $153 million from WestBridge Capital in its series C round.

On this development, the CEO and co-founder of LeadSquared, Nilesh Patel, had some views to share: “With this financing, we will double down on growth investments in India and North America, start building in APAC and EMEA, add new offerings to our product portfolio, and fund acquisitions. To support our growth, we plan to double our headcount in the next 18 months.”
This funding round has successfully led the way for LeadSquared to enter the ‘Unicorn Club’.‍

‎India's Largest Funding Deal of the Month - May 2022 ‍

Allen Education and Management Services Private Limited ‍

In addition to Reliance and Viacom18, Bodhi Tree Systems has announced a US $600 million (over Rs 4,500 crore) investment in a strategic partnership with ALLEN Career Institute to build the country's biggest test preparation company.

The transaction is expected to close within three months and is subject to closing conditions and requisite approvals.
As per the senior-most director at ALLEN's, Govind Maheshwari, the test-prep brand's strategic partnership with Bodhi Tree is founded on shared values, principles, and an aligned vision of creating societal impact at scale through education globally.

Total Number of Funding Deals - India

◾ The Total Number of Deals - Weekly

The total number of funding deals that had been undertaken in the week of June 20th witnessed a decline when compared to the number of deals for the week of June 13th, dropping to 25 deals from a total of 33 deals respectively.

◾ The Total Number of Deals - Monthly (May 22)

Similarly, the month of May 2022 recorded 109 deals, which included about 14 large deals of value ≥ US $100 million, when compared to 117 deals in April 2022, indicating that the total number of deals in the month of May had witnessed a downward trend.
